As a child, Raun Kaufman would spin plates, rock back and forth, and cover his eyes for hours at a time. Diagnosed with autism it was believed that he didn't want anything to do with others and had an IQ of 30. His diagnosis came at the age of 18 months, but as he says, his parents never gave up on him.
What they did is saw him as incredible gift, by looking at his abilities and not his deficiencies. They nurtured a purpose behind the things that he was doing. By doing this they fostered connections and communication with him. Today, he works with autistic, hyperactive, and ADD children to help them overcome their disorders in a healthy manner.
