Coral reefs are the rainforests of the ocean as they are incredibly bio-diverse areas formed in water with little or no nutrients. Over millions of years the cumulative work of tiny coral polyps has built vast formations that support coral, plants and other species. This episode reviews some of the most remarkable coral reefs on the planet, as well as examining the negative effects human activities – such as tourism and fishing – are having on the delicate eco-system of the coral reefs.
