Earth Report: Perfectly Cool (2009)

Rising temperatures and growing consumerism have led to a global boom in sales of fridges and air conditioning. But our need to stay cool is not only damaging the ozone layer but also accelerating global warming. Air conditioners don’t just damage the environment – one widely used coolant gas, HCFC, is also destroying the ozone layer. The solution requires finding a coolant gas that won’t harm the ozone layer and doesn’t act as a greenhouse gas. Earth Report travels to China, the centre of the global A/C world, to see if Chinese manufacturers are on track to solve the problem.
