Impact: Halting Violence: Female Empowerment in Central Asia (2010)

Domestic violence affects over half of women in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. How are religious leaders, police and aid groups stepping in to stop this social ill? How can women be empowered to break away from violence and lead independent lives?

This episode takes audiences inside the only women’s shelter in Tajikistan to hear their stories. It also demonstrates how micro finance and other similar programs are empowering females in these countries, and transforming patriarchal ways of thinking.
