A Future Without Oil (2010)

The Yasuni basin, in Ecuador, has a vast repository of oil waiting to be exploited. To do so would destroy hundreds of acres of pristine Amazon rainforest. However, giving up the oil means Ecuador is giving up seven billion dollars, a figure that is sure to bankrupt the economy. A novel solution is proposed and a team of experts is put together to try to put this plan into motion. They will create a carbon bond system in which countries will offer a minimal financial compensation for the ecological betterment of the world. This is a do-or-die situation. The team must convince world governments the viability of this plan, or face the many groups of people threatening protests if the Amazon rainforest is exploited for oil.
