An inspiring film that chronicles one man's personal mission to overcome illness, Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead outlines the many health benefits of juicing.

One hundred pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror, he saw a 310 lb. man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn't end well.

With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help long- term, Joe turns to the only option left, the body's ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe has one goal in mind: to get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle.

While talking to more than 500 Americans about food, health and longevity, it's at a truck stop in Arizona where Joe meets a truck driver who suffers from the same rare condition. Phil Staples is morbidly obese weighing in at 429 lbs; a cheeseburger away from a heart-attack. As Joe is recovering his health, Phil begins his own epic journey to get well. What emerges is nothing short of amazing – an inspiring tale of healing and human connection.

Maybe the single most inspirational weight loss and healthy living show I've ever seen. I'm about 15 pounds over weight, love fruits and vegetables, but live across the street from a taco bell, mc donald's popeys, wendy's and boston market....lol...convenience is my problem. I paused this halfway through and reacquainted myself with my old juicer.....it still works. Thanks guys for reminding me of what I already knew but had allowed myself to CONVENIENTLY forget!

I love juice fasting however I use the whole food juicer the Vita Mix machine along with the juice extractor. The whole food juicer gives you 8 to 10 times the nutrition because you dont loose the fiber or the seeds and you can add the Omega Fatty Acids for brain food so you dont get foggy, you can still make it the same consistency as the extractor but you use way less and get way more, its the best ever. Dr Patrick Quillin has a great book called the Wisdom and Healing Power of Whole Foods that is awesome and explains how the Vita Mix will give you the extra nutrition plus needed fiber. I also drink enhanced master cleanse lemon water recipe by David Wolfe try it you will feel like a million bucks. :)

When he was talking about getting sick... It's so true I've spent probably 6 years altogether as an obese person; oddly not all at once... 3 times 2 years each. Now I realize if I didn't go through it that many times I wouldn't have ever became vegan and now as a vegan I feel so balanced, alive and connected. Another oddity is I attracted a kitten in to my life and I never felt right about cat food or pet food in general so I actually still buy meat for her and cook depending on what it is. It's a strange thing being a vegan with a carnivore companion but it actually balances me and helps me understand humanity (which believe me you forget fast when you don't participate anymore). I'm very thankful for being overweight once and very thankful I have so many grounding things around me :)

There is far too much content on Gaiam , that is US and Canada only, the fact films like this get featured on the feature carousel to pique interest only to become unwatchable just infuriates all the more. Im a hairs breadth from cancelling.

I totally agree with you! This is my first day of my trial and I feel so disapointed.

Even in Canada there's things I can't watch because it's USA only... but bare with them & send Jay's staff a message. Sadly it's usually beyond their control and more to do with the copywriter but it would be nice if they sourced more content for other regions :)

I watched this show last night and was so impressed with the results that I am on the program today. I could relate to many of the conditions mentioned and just know this is the right thing to do. I will watch this again and again to stay on track. I made a pineapple, carrot, gala apple juice today and my tastebuds were wowed. I have purchased greens, veggies and fruits. It's delicious and easy to do! What's not to like?

I would really like to watch this movie, doesn't seem fair it's only for Canada and United States as so many of these films are....where's the fairness in this as eveyone pays the same fees????

Monique.kotterer, posted on September 26, 2013

Yes, that makes sense. Half of what is available to US & canadian citizens falls away.

We have the same thing here in Canada. Of course I am very interested in that which was filmed here in Canada or interviews with Canadians and there is lots I cannot view. Frustrating as heck.

I really wasn't expecting much, however this movie blew me away. If he hadn't met the truck driver it would have been interesting... instead it turned inspiring.

It was great how the host of the show and a truck driver were able to change their lives by consuming healthy food and being active.

What an amazing story. I will be looking into getting a juicer ASAP!

Well done, guys. So proud of all of you. Have juicer, will juice.

Honest and inspiring, better than I expected. I've been putting off seeing this, thinking this was just another against food movie but I was way off. The message is clear as seen through the eyes of real folks. Another wake up call on a great site.

Cried through the whole second half, it was so inspiring. Way to go, Joe and Phil! Made me want to try it, too.
